D-Day, also known as the Normandy Landings, were made a success by the element of surprise, which was achieved through fake operations, weather, and help from Allies.
If there's a war, there's sure to be double-crossing. The Germans parachuted down some spies, but ALL of them were captured by the Brits, and to make a long story short, they either had to double-cross the Germans... or die. the Germans back at base knew nothing of this.
Eisenhower had only one day to launch the attack. If postponed, it would be almost an entire month to have enough moonlight for his troops to see.
Garbo, a double agent for the Allies, managed to trick the Germans into thinking there were 89 divisions ready for D-Day when there were really only 47!
Another thing that helped the Allies is that the plans for the Atlantic Wall were stolen.
For D-Day, the US attacked Omaha and Utah Beaches, Canada attacked Juno Beach, and the Brits attacked Sword and Gold beaches.
One thing that did not effect anyone, but got people a bit panicked for a bit, was that operation names (e.g. Neptune, Overlord, etc.)were being leaked in a crossword puzzle!
